The Poonam Pandey Saga: Revisited 🙃

Is it a cringe PR stunt or genius marketing strategy?

1. The Post!

On February 2nd, 2024, a story gets posted on Poonam Pandey’s Instagram

And needless to say, the internet lost its mind.

2. The (real) post

Within just the next 24 hours, Poonam Pandey posts a video that says this:

In a nutshell: “I am alive, and all of it was a stunt to bring awareness for cervical cancer”.

3. The Backlash

As expected, the internet broke out again, this time calling her names (again), Some prominent celebs even blasted her calling it a cheap publicity stunt.

4. The Support

But but.. there were quite a few who supported her.

5. The Impact?

In a nutshell: The search for “cervical cancer” spikes up on the internet, fulfilling the campaign’s purpose.

But the Marketing agency behind this hoax advertising issues apology(sort of 🙃)

Here’s what we think 🙏 :

Shockvertising - a tactic where brands aim to startle and even offend audiences, may have succeeded in spreading awareness initially. However, the spotlight quickly shifted to the influencer, overshadowing the genuine cause of cervical cancer.

This stunt wasn't just a misstep or cringe; it resonated poorly highlighting a concerning trend where the quest for relevance overshadows ethical considerations, potentially damaging the credibility of both marketers and influencers alike.

Moreover, it caused immeasurable distress especially to families who've lost loved ones to the disease.

The lesson here is clear: A responsible impact holds more weight than attention-grabbing marketing gimmicks.

As marketing agencies we bear a significant responsibility. Our narratives should genuinely contribute to society, utilizing the power of persuasion for positive change. Unfortunately, this stunt fell short, undermining its intended purpose on various levels. No amount of apologies can undo the negative impact it inflicted.

👑 Featured Creator of the week 👑

Sahini Banerjee a.k.a. Feashts

E Sunny ki Khaabi?” which directly translates to “Sunny, what do you want to eat?” is the hook that has got this creator over 1M followers across social media.

It's not your average food channel, it's like your favorite aunt's kitchen come alive online.

Sahini Banerjee, the mind behind it all, doesn't just cook up delicious dishes, she weaves magic with them. Forget fancy chefs and intimidating recipes, Sahini's got warmth oozing out of every frame, making you feel like you're right there with her.

Her recipes are like family heirlooms, passed down with love and laughter. Each bite of her melt-in-your-mouth Nolen Gur Roshogollas or surprisingly healthy Nugget Wraps is a journey through her heritage and experiences. You can practically taste the stories in the spices, the love in the presentation.

But Feashts is more than just the food (though let's be honest, it's pretty darn good). It's the community that makes it special. It's like a giant, virtual kitchen table where people from all walks of life gather to share their love for food and culture. It's not about following instructions perfectly, it's about messy laughter, swapped tips, and celebrating the joy of creating something delicious together.

So, if you're looking for more than just recipes, if you're craving a space that feels like home, then Feashts is your jam. It's a reminder that food is more than sustenance, it's a way to connect, to learn, and to simply have fun. And Sahini, the queen of good vibes and deliciousness, deserves all the praise for creating this haven for food lovers everywhere. So grab your favorite spoon, pull up a virtual chair, and get ready to fall in love with food all over again!
